Mission Life

A missionary is a person whose mission is to go somewhere to help others! At The Mount Church, we support mission initiatives that range from walking next door in your neighborhood to flying across the globe to a remote village! We are a church that wants to BE the church in our community and around the world. The Mount Church believes that Jesus is alive and working!

Global Missions

“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” Mark 16:15

The Mount Church has sent teams to countries such as Ukraine, Kenya, Canada, Guatemala, Argentina, and China! These short term trips have been for the sole purpose of sharing the name and the love of Jesus. Teams have ministered in orphanages, villages, malnutrition centers, universities, hospitals, prisons, schools, and camps. We teach a curriculum to our children and youth that instill in them the desire to be involved in mission initiatives around the world.

Local Missions

But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:4

We want to meet the needs of the people in our community and to show them the love of Jesus! The Mount Church has specific ministry groups with the purpose of providing tangible necessities as well as teaching necessary life skills.

Clothes Closet and Food Pantry – The Mount has two ministries housed in our building to meet the needs of our community. The Clothes Closet and Food Pantry are open each Saturday from 9:00-12 noon. Volunteers from The Mount help visitors shop for free clothes and disperse free food as needed. This ministry collects clothes, blankets, toys, hygiene products, and food on a regular basis.

English as a Second Language – The ESL Ministry reaches out to the cultures of the world, demonstrating the love of Christ, and sharing God’s Word. The Mount is a place for our international friends to learn to read, write, and communicate in English all the while helping the students adjust to being in a new country. The classes that are offered are Beginners 101 and 102, Intermediate, and Advanced. This ministry meets each Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30. The classes follow the Clemson University schedule. Summer classes will meet at needed.

Financial Support

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace. I Peter 4:10

The Mount designates a portion of our monthly and annual budget to support mission initiatives.

The Cooperative Program – This program is dependent on individuals, churches, state conventions, and the Southern Baptist Convention cooperating and working toward the common goal of sharing the gospel with every person on the planet. This program supports a wide array of ministries and missions including: evangelism efforts, children’s homes, volunteer missions, mission’s education, new churches, colleges and universities, collegiate ministries, camps, and much more.

The Piedmont Baptist Association – This association serves a local group of Southern Baptist Churches under The Southern Baptist Convention.

John and Jan Sherard – (members of The Mount!) John and Jan have devoted their lives to working for the mission of Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) at Clemson University. Cru is a “caring community passionate about connecting people to Jesus Christ.” John and Jan act as a spiritual resource to students on campus to help them grow in their relationship with Christ and train them in evangelism and discipleship. They lead large and small group Bible studies each week, hold retreats and conferences, meet with students individually for personal discipleship and offer summer mission opportunities.

Tyler and Brooke - Tyler and Brooke are working as missionaries with Cru at UNC Charlotte. Their goal is to be a competitive force for the Gospel of Jesus Christ on this college campus and around the world. The three key areas of their ministry are to 1) Win lost students to Christ 2) Build involved students in their faith 3) Send equipped laborers into the world. Tyler and Brooke are missionaries on one of the largest college campuses in North Carolina!

Bobby and Jenna Sherard – Bobby & Jenna have worked in the MidSouth Regional Cru Office (near Raleigh, NC) for six years. Bobby works on the Operations Team working with Media and Communications for the region and Jenna is the intern care coordinator, working with our leadership development team. As a whole, the regional team's goal is to help the overall function of our region so that our staff can reach as many college students with the Gospel as possible.
