Questions:
- Please read Micah 5:1-5. For historical context, check out 2 Kings 18:9-19:13 (Assyria’s invasion and siege of Jerusalem). Micah 5:2 is quoted/paraphrased in Matthew 2:6, which you may also consider reading.
- Micah 5:2 emphasizes the humble origins of the Messiah. Both David and Jesus were from Bethlehem, a small town in an unimportant district, Ephrathah. God loves to make much of humble people and places. Where else do you see this in the Bible and Jesus’ life? Have you seen this in your life?
- God “gives the people up” until the Messiah would come bringing revival to “his brothers” (vs 3). Waiting and longing for God and his Christ has marked God’s people throughout history. May it mark us and especially going into Advent.
- How does the Messiah’s reign differ from governments and kings of this world (vs 4-5a)? Come Lord Jesus!
