Summary:
With the Lord's help, Eve is able to produce a man, another Adam. The hope of the gospel is kindled. But this gospel hope came with a conflict, and the conflict is not for some far-flung future. It comes swiftly, and with dire consequences. The Lord counsels with patience and mercy in spite of our sin. Will we listen?

- What does the naming of Eve's sons tell us about Eve's post-fall heart (4:1)? How is God faithful in spite of the curse on the land? What graces/mercies do we find in this passage as a whole?
- What does this passage tell us about how work and worship are related (4:2-7)? Why does God regard one offering, and not the other?
- Have you ever ignored good, godly counsel? What were the results? What is the impact of failing to "rule" over sin? How is God's merciful and patient character reflected in this passage (4:8-12)? What do we see of his judgment? How is our understanding of the gospel affected by this passage?
- What is the difference between regret, or even feelings of guilt or shame, and repentance? How do we see God's mercy (4:13-16) in this passage?
